Have we seen the last of the Lunar New Year launches? Over the past few weeks, there have been capsule collections from leading brands, special-edition watches and bottles, and dragon-motif jewellery, but a dragon-inspired car did not cross our minds. Now, zooming into focus, leaving a cloud of dust in its wake, a Range Rover to celebrate the Year of the Dragon has been poised and parked in the region—and we just had to check it out.

Overfinch, the Range Rover enhancement specialist, has launched “The Dragon Edition,” a limited series of just eight bespoke enhancement-packed cars, “each embodying the ultimate symbol of power and prosperity.” As part of a suite of unique detailing and design aspects that have been carved into the dashboard, headrest, and other parts of the car’s exquisitely appointed interiors, the emblematic image of the zodiac dragon is gorgeously etched throughout the commemorative models in a sophisticated and elegant manner.

“The Dragon Edition raises the bar for bespoke automotive luxury,” says Kevin Sloane, chairman and CEO of Overfinch, in an official statement. “It’s an incredible showcase of art and craftsmanship. This was a creatively ambitious project, conceived and executed to exacting standards.”

A year in the making, the modifications to the Range Rover are remarkable. Keeping in mind Chinese cultural riches and diversity, The Dragon Edition has been developed exclusively in the region for the 2024 Range Rover model, specifically the SV and Autobiography derivatives. Hone in on the dragon motif in the multi-coloured embroidery detailing in the leather accessories, gear selector, veneer, and limited-edition badging on the front centre console. Keeping with the theme, the custom red-and-black colour scheme is resplendent throughout the plush, comfortable interiors. The perforated dragon-scale patterning on the driver’s and side-passenger’s seat is a nice touch, and the tactile aspects of the cabin have not been neglected. Furthermore, the mystical theme is extended to illuminated treadplates on each door sill, the carbon-fibre styling for Range Rover, and its commemorative badging. Whether in rest or motion, the swish and swag of the car is hard to miss.

“Our ability to discuss details of the design directly with our clients, and really understand their true significance, was hugely important,” comments Sloane, pointing out the various aspects that make this vehicle enhancement package unique. “Whilst paying homage to 2024 being the Year of the Dragon, we wanted to retain our commitment to uninhibited creative exploration. This required us to respectfully adopt a timeless symbol of China and Chinese culture into a considered and imaginative design.”

Since the 1970s, Overfinch has been in the market making bespoke enhancements and upgrades to Range Rovers the world over. A happy marriage of luxury and individuality, Overfinch cars and vehicles have distinguished themselves through a range of elegant beautifications, be it for a billionaire on the desert dunes or a celebrity arriving in red-carpet style. Now, the latest Dragon Edition is offered as a conversion programme for existing Range Rover owners and is priced at US$250,000 (HK$1.95 million).
