As one year melds into the next, we get to bask in the unique joy of living in Asia, where a Gregorian New Year’s celebration is quickly followed by a Lunar one—all the more reason to uncork a bottle and toast to health, happiness, and success.
Marking the arrival of the Year of the Horse, Penfolds has launched its exclusive Lunar New Year gifting series, comprising its flagship Grange 2021, Bin 707 Cabernet Sauvignon 2023, St Henri Shiraz 2021, Bin 389 Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz 2023, and FWT 585 Cabernet Merlot Petit Verdot 2022. Wrapped in auspicious red with hints of gold and jade, the wines are housed in special presentation boxes to make their moment of unveiling even more memorable.

Inside the bespoke packaging for the Lunar New Year Grange 2021, something even more novel awaits: a tool that allows for interactive engagement with the paper-cutting-inspired horse motif on the outer box, allowing the recipient to delicately lift and reveal the intricate layers of the stylised illustration. After its practical usage, the tool transforms into an aesthetic accessory as an elegant Penfolds keychain, designed to live on as a cherished keepsake.
As Penfolds’s flagship product, the aromatic and nuanced Grange 2021 leads the pack with scents of dark chocolate, marbled meats, beef fat, and marrow, while its mid-palate reveals dusty tannins and caramelised oak. Bin 707 Cabernet Sauvignon 2023 gives off blackberry and mulberry notes, laced with spices and black olives. St Henri Shiraz 2019 shines with dark fruits, liquorice, fennel seeds, and dried mint before giving way to warm flavours and sweet custard. Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz 2023 imparts red fruits, vanilla, and exotic spices, and the FWT 585 Cabernet Merlot Petit Verdot 2022 blends black cherry, chocolate mint, and violet notes.

Penfolds is hosting a festive pop-up at Harbour City from 1 to 8 February to showcase its vibrant Lunar New Year series. Naturally, the venue will be delightfully horse-themed and provide experiences such as personalised digital calligraphy services for Lunar New Year couplets and wine flight tastings on 6 to 8 February. Limited spaces are offered for these complimentary activities, so registration is advised, though walk-ins are accepted based on availability.
“We’re thrilled to present the Penfolds Lunar New Year Horse series in celebration of this important global festive season. Showcased across digital, in-store, immersive experiences, and, for the first time, lifestyle accessories, these striking designs are unmistakably Penfolds and make the perfect gift or collector’s piece for the Lunar New Year,” says Kristy Keyte, chief marketing officer of Penfolds.
