Patrick Dempsey may have been in Italy because of Ferrari, but we couldn’t get enough of his watch that’s a nod to Porsche.

On Thursday, the Grey’s Anatomy star attended the 80th Venice International Film Festival in a crisp black Brunello Cucinelli tuxedo with a TAG Heuer Carrera Porsche RS 2.7 watch on his wrist to walk the red carpet for the premiere of Michael Mann’s Ferrari. Dempsey stars in the flick alongside Adam Driver who portrays the famed marque’s founder Enzo Ferrari.

The actor’s limited-edition timepiece was released last year, a half-century after the unveiling of Porsche’s fully redesigned Carrera known as the RS 2.7 in October 1972. The watch, which sold out for US$23,550 (HK$184,667) a pop, features a 42 mm case crafted from 18-karat rose gold with a striking livery in red and white. The piece is further accented with bold Carrera branding on its dial, case profile, and strap that makes it a stellar red-carpet selection.

Its dial houses small-seconds, 30-minute, and 12-hour counter displays. A day date window at 6 o’clock and a tachymeter scale along the inner rim also highlights the watch. Inspired a 210 hp track assailant, its inner workings are designed to deliver precision and style. The Swiss manufacturer’s calibre Heuer 02 powers the watch, running at a frequency of 28,000 vph with a steering wheel-inspired oscillating weight. It provides Dempsey with an impressive 80-hour power reserve, and should he need it, a water resistance of up to 100 meters.

“McDreamy” can view the TAG Heuer Carrera Porsche RS 2.7’s movement through its open caseback made of 18-karat 5N solid pink gold. A red alligator strap with a pink-gold pink buckle completes the watch that effortlessly popped against Dempsey’s classic red-carpet attire. The longtime TAG Heuer ambassador is a known race car driver, having competed in the grueling Baja 1000 off-road race and coming in second at the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Here’s hoping he’ll sport the same bold timepiece to the next race for a second glance.
