Louis Vuitton is paying homage to its Parisian roots with a new, très chic timepiece.

The second model in the Escales Autour du Monde pocket watch collection, which LV revealed on Tuesday, has been adorned with an assortment of landmarks and icons tied to the French fashion house.

Fittingly christened the Escale au Pont-Neuf, the métiers d’art pocket watch features a tableau of the French capital for a dial. Beneath the dome of sapphire crystal lies the historic Pont-Neuf bridge, the Louis Vuitton headquarters, and the Samaritaine department store. The idyllic scene also depicts a barge carrying Louis Vuitton’s famous trunks along the Seine. The barge actually moves from right to left, while the trunks slowly open to reveal golden LV Monogram flowers.

That isn’t the only trick the Escale au Pont-Neuf has in store. Powered by the in-house LFT AU14.03 calibre—the most complex mechanical movement ever created by Louis Vuitton’s esteemed La Fabrique du Temps watch manufacture—the watch has some seven animations and 13 moving elements. A gold compass at 12 o’clock spins clockwise, the sparrow at 1 o’clock flutters, and the LV flag at the centre waves about, for example.

All the elements were carved in thin layers of gold using the bas-relief engraving technique, meaning they appear slightly raised from the background. Each one is finished with intricate hand-engraved details that add further depth and dimension. To top it off, the dial showcases three types of champlevé enamel in 30 different hues. The enamelling work alone took 300 hours, or two months, to complete, according to the house.

To further accentuate the colourful and interactive face, the white-gold bezel has been set with 60 baguette-cut precious and coloured stones. Sapphires and tsavorites play against topazes and diamonds, creating a feast for the eyes. The 50 mm case, crown, and chain also draw the eye with gleaming 18-carat white gold.

The Escale au Pont-Neuf doesn’t just look good, it sounds good, too. The 561-component manual movement, which took another 500 hours to finish, incorporates a minute repeater that chimes the hours, quarters, and minutes. Another distinguishing touch is that the two hands have been placed on the caseback rather than the face, so as not to detract from the theatrical show.

The Escale au Pont-Neuf, which took two and a half years and 1,000 hours of work to come to fruition, comes with a doctor’s-style bag inspired by a 1906 archive design and a bespoke trunk. Price upon request, naturally.

Louis Vuitton recently launched the Escales Autour du Monde collection as part of a broader strategic plan to elevate its watch category. The house presented the first model, the Escale en Amazonie, during Watch Week in Miami earlier this year. First, the Amazon, now France; one can only imagine what destination LV will tackle next.
