As catwalk shows are kicking off in style and stilettos around the fashion capitals of the world this month, here’s a look at the menswear and accessories the fashion squad at Robb Report Hong Kong has kept tabs on. Elegant and refined houses only.

Brunello Cucinelli

A brand that whispers while others scream, Brunello Cucinelli is perfect for the city’s urban sophisticate. While it sticks to its DNA of masterful craftsmanship (over half of the production is made by hand) underpinned by fine fabrics, there’s none of the frumpiness that may suggest, with a lighter, more youthful vibe to the collection. The classic full linen look (main picture) was dapper enough, but all the linens are perfect for Hong Kong’s balmy weather—they let you breath in peace.

Berluti

We’re answering the call of Berluti. The call of the Autumn/Winter 2022 Collection from “the Parisian house with Italian roots”.  The relaxed feel to the maison’s iconic ready-to-wear, leather goods and footwear have oft been written about, but something else caught our fancy: all the leather accessories. For the intrepid collector, a sophisticated watch case. Want. No—need.

Prada

There was a comical twist in Joey Tribbiani (essayed to perfection by Matt LeBlanc) carrying a man-bag, a “murse” if you-will, on Friends, a pop culture touchstone that was a surprising harbinger of trends to come. More on that later. Prada has been making unisex, practical, functional leather bags for the man-about-town for years. The beautiful black or the exquisite beige? How about both?

Ralph Lauren

Extraordinary campaigns shot beautifully with the biggest supermodels in the world—and yet, is there a better brand ambassador for the American fashion institution than the man himself? The head-to-toe look, a timeless pinstripe suit with a crisp white linen shirt, black tie, a stainless white pocket square, is now available at Ralph Lauren’s flagship store in Central, Hong Kong. Or online, of course. The gold-rimmed shades he’s holding with effortless ease? Also available.

Hermès

As the principal designer of menswear at Hermès, Véronique Nichanian has been creating full looks that men didn’t know they desired until the outfits strutted down the catwalk. A grey suit with coal black accessories (tie, shoes, bag) could have turned out granite-hard, cold, imposing… but throw in a signature Hermès print scarf and suddenly, “C’est une proposition tendre”, as Nichanian told the press earlier this year.

Moncler

In the sweltering heat and humidity of Hong Kong, the puffer jackets of Moncler seem like an anomaly, but of course these are uniforms for the fashionable who ski, not for the madding crowd that snakes through the arteries of Canton Road. The flagship store in Harbour City, the brand’s largest single-floor retail space in the region, houses all Moncler collections and accessories. Even for those of us who are waiting for travel restrictions to ease further, this black jumper will suit the autumnal clime of the 852.

Tiffany & Co.

In the age of gender-neutral accessories, we scrolled along many a fashion Instagram account, looking for what was trending and yet timeless. This particular ring kept popping up. And we had to trace it back to the source. At The 40th Hong Kong Film Awards, Lokman Yeung of the popular group Mirror, was seen studded with jewellery and accessories. What really stood out? The Tiffany & Co. Schlumberger Sixteen Stone Ring with Diamonds.

Ferragamo

The theme for the latest collection from Ferragamo was the “intelligent informal”. And we’re here for it. The soft bucket bag is new to the line of accessories, featuring the signature Gancini closure and a studded base. It’s fashioned of grainy calf in the season’s range of “Italianate colours”. They’re like regular colours, but with an accent.

Alfred Dunhill

Are we bonkers about the British brand? Yes, we are. Particularly this intriguing full look from Alfred Dunhill. The Camel Kimono Coat, construed in elevated fabrications of wool and cashmere, has a luxurious look and feel. Displaying elements of Japanese classicism fused with fine British tailoring, the look uses the kimono shape and design to reinterpret the classic double-breasted suit. The half-wrap styles seen often in the entire collection have a modern and relaxed attitude, exquisitely crafted with couture cutting techniques. The cherry on top? The bag from the latest Rollagas collection.

Loro Piana

And finally, Loro Piana’s colour palette made us look at the collection again and again; it’s a heady, potent mix of formal tones of grey, navy blue, and onyx with deep hues of sugar plum, graphite, and dark claret. As the holiday season is already afoot, we were drawn to the mulberry wine hues of their winter look. With Loro Piana, at the end of the day, or be it end of the year, you know it’s all about absolute luxury in texture; even this look from collared neck to ankle brims with cashmere, baby Suri alpaca, calfskin, treated cotton, and corduroy.
