Daniel Calvert’s Sézanne takes the No. 1 spot at Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2024.

Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants has crowned a new No. 1—and it’s in Tokyo.

Sézanne, helmed by Daniel Calvert, seizes the coveted top spot, earning not only the honour of “The Best Restaurant in Asia,” but also “The Best Restaurant in Japan.” Tokyo cohort Florilège follows close behind at No. 2, while Hasegawa Zaiyu’s Den drops to No. 8. Also in the top 10 are Bangkok’s Gaggan Anand, Nusara, and Sühring. Osaka’s La Cime cinches No. 9, and Julian Royer’s Odette earns No. 10, as well as the “Best Restaurant in Singapore” distinction.

Among the 50 establishments recognised, six are in Hong Kong. Even better news is that two Hong Kong restaurants have entered into the top 10 this year. The Chairman maintains a leading position as “The Best Restaurant in Hong Kong” and climbs a respectable nine places from No. 13 to No. 4. Chef-owner Danny Yip additionally takes home the Icon Award.

Hong Kong’s Neighborhood (No. 16) also advances up the ranks, as do Mono (No. 27) and Caprice (No. 32). Most impressive of all is Wing (No. 5)—Vicky Cheng’s fine Chinese restaurant earns the “Highest Climber Award” for rocketing up the 2024 list by a staggering 32 spots. Ando, led by Argentinian-born chef Agustin Ferrando Balbi, makes it onto Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants for the first time, debuting at an admirable No. 37.

Seoul, which hosted the live awards ceremony for Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2024, is represented by four establishments. Mingles ascends to No. 13, 7th Door re-enters the list at No. 18, Onjium moves up to No. 21, and Mosu secures No. 41.

Jakarta’s August enters the 2024 list at No. 46.

Meanwhile, Chef Tam’s Seasons (No. 49) is the only restaurant in Macau to be honoured on the 2024 list. (It also recently secured its first Michelin star.) Seroja makes a splash at No. 31 with the “Highest New Entry Award.” Other new entrants to this year’s edition include 102 House, Lolla, Goh, August, Meet the Bund, and Ling Long.

Logy’s Kevin Lu receives “Beronia Asia’s Best Sommelier Award,” Mosu’s Sung Anh wins the peer-voted “Inedit Damm Chefs’ Choice Award,” Kato Mineko of Faro is recognised as “Asia’s Best Pastry Chef,” and Haoma (No. 90) is honoured with the “Sustainable Restaurant Award.”

“It is truly uplifting to witness such a rich array of exceptional dining establishments spanning 19 cities in Asia, including eight exciting newcomers,” says William Drew, director of content at Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants, in an official statement. “We extend our sincere congratulations to the esteemed restaurants featured on this year’s ranking—a true example of the vibrancy and diversity of Asia’s culinary landscape.
