In a significant enhancement to its already illustrious and famed automotive offering, The Peninsula Hong Kong has added to its fleet the luxurious wheels from the famed British marquee Bentley. At a grand unveiling held recently, four bespoke Bentley Bentayga Extended Wheelbase (EWB) Azure SUVs were showcased in a row at the iconic Hong Kong hotel’s entrance. They dazzled in the sun, reaffirming The Peninsula’s position as a paragon of pure luxury and hospitality, a momentous occasion in the world of luxury.
This latest addition joins the hotel’s already esteemed collection, which features 14 Rolls-Royce Extended Wheelbase Phantoms and a meticulously refurbished 1934 Phantom II, symbolising the Grande Dame’s unwavering commitment to exceptional guest transport in and around the city.
The official handover ceremony, held on 26 November 2024 at the hotel’s forecourt, was attended by Sir Michael Kadoorie, non-executive chairman of The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels. He accepted the keys to the new Bentayga EWB Azure luxury cars from Dr Frank-Steffen Walliser, CEO of Bentley Motors, a spotlight speaker at the Leaders of Luxury Summit 2024 hosted by Robb Report Hong Kong that same week.
“The acquisition of these vehicles is a truly momentous occasion for The Peninsula,” Joseph W Y Chong, regional executive vice-president for Asia and managing director of The Peninsula Hong Kong. “Not only does it align with our legacy of offering the finest available transport to our guests; it also reflects our dedication to providing them with unparalleled experiences at every turn.”
As any motor enthusiast knows, the Bentley Bentayga EWB Azure is not just a vehicle; it is a statement of sophistication. With its striking design and expansive interiors, it offers unparalleled comfort, making it the ideal choice for discerning travellers. The vehicles feature custom bodywork in the signature Peninsula green, complemented by hushed self-closing extended rear doors. Inside, the opulence continues with custom-quilted seat backs, veneered picnic tables, individual entertainment screens, and a rear control panel that grants passengers the ability to tailor their environment to exacting standards. Additionally, bespoke features such as a rear-seat massage function and dual wireless chargers enhance the travel experience, while spacious leather-clad luggage compartments ensure practicality does not compromise luxury.
Alongside the Bentayga EWB Azures, The Peninsula Hong Kong has also introduced four new bespoke Toyota Alphards, which offer an eco-friendly yet luxurious transport option for family and executive groups. These hybrid-electric vehicles accommodate up to six passengers and are equipped with a plethora of customised Peninsula features, including remote controls for climate, seating, and lighting, as well as a state-of-the-art JBL sound system that adds a layer of entertainment to every journey.
The addition of the new luxury vehicles is a defining chapter in the hotel’s famed history. The Peninsula Hong Kong’s automotive legacy dates back to its early years, when luxury cars first defined the hotel’s commitment to providing exceptional transport. The hotel’s history includes operating its own taxis and acquiring a fleet of Lincoln Continentals and Ford Galaxies. A landmark moment came in 1970 with the purchase of seven Rolls-Royce Silver Shadows, marking the largest single order ever placed with the manufacturer at the time. Over the years, The Peninsula Hong Kong has continually refined its fleet, striving to offer the most stylish and comfortable vehicles available.
In 2006, the introduction of 14 Extended Wheelbase Phantoms set a new benchmark in luxury ground transport, with each vehicle meticulously customised to meet Peninsula specifications. Today, the hotel’s collection is not just about transportation; it embodies the essence of the Peninsula experience—one that combines elegance, comfort, and impeccable service.
