It is still a year before Tankoa’s new 170-foot hybrid is expected to hit the seas, but the designers of the yacht are ready to show it off.
Vitruvius Yacht Design, the London-based firm founded by renowned yacht designer Philippe Briand in 2004, has just shared new details and renders of the unnamed vessel.
The Tankoa was commissioned by a seafaring couple with ties to the business and art world. They requested “the most sophisticated and lifestyle-oriented yacht under 500 gross on the market.” To achieve this, they enlisted Vitruvius for the exterior and FM Architettura for the interior.
“From our first meeting, we were inspired by our clients’ fresh perspective and their passion for designing a truly personal life on the water,” Briand said in a statement. “They challenged us with questions that spurred innovation, and we responded with ideas that bring their vision to life.”
The studio says one of the biggest challenges was to ensure efficiency without losing elegance. To overcome this, Vitruvius engineered a highly efficient aluminium hull and maximised the internal volume by optimising technical spaces. The result is a yacht that offers the space and amenities of a larger cruiser but remains under 500 GT.

The newcomer encourages outdoor living, with 50 per cent of the overall volume dedicated to alfresco areas. At the aft, a giant full-beam gym with an infrared sauna opens onto a beach club with a Jacuzzi, folding terraces, and stairs that lead to the water. At the opposite end, the foredeck features a panoramic lounge that will afford sweeping views.
The interior, spearheaded by FM Architettura D’Interni founder Francesca Muzio, also spotlights the surrounding environment. The dining room, for example, can be opened up to an adjoining terrace with the push of a button. Similarly, the owner’s suite has a sliding door that leads to a private balcony. Other interior highlights include five generous guest cabins, a stylish main salon, and a striking spiral staircase.
The Tankoa is cleaner on the seas than diesel-powered competitors, too. The yacht is equipped with a hybrid propulsion system that draws electric power from a high-capacity battery bank, reducing emissions and fuel consumption.
“We are delighted with the collaboration among all parties—the owners, Francesca Muzio, Tankoa, and our own team at Vitruvius,” adds Briand. “Together, we’ve created a vessel that combines cutting-edge efficiency with a deeply personal and luxurious onboard lifestyle.”
The 170-footer is currently under construction at the Tankoa shipyard in Genoa, Italy, with delivery scheduled for early 2026.
