Welcome to Checking In, a review series in which our editors and contributors rate the best luxury hotels based on a rigorous—and occasionally tongue-in-cheek—10-point system: Each question answered “yes” gets one point. Will room service bring you caviar? Does your suite have its own butler? Does the bathroom have a bidet? Find out below.

Describe the hotel in three words: Wellness for all.

What’s the deal?

“It takes a village,” they say, though that term is commonly used in conjunction with child-rearing. At RXV Wellness Village, in the outskirts of Bangkok, that’s certainly the case for achieving holistic betterment in mind, body, and spirit, as wellness, fitness, and health is thrust upon you by seasoned professionals well-trained in the art of well-being.

Nestled along the Tha Chin river within the lush Suan Sampran heritage and eco-cultural complex in the Nakhon Pathom province—about an hour’s drive from Bangkok—the 4,000-square-metre RXV Wellness Village was developed by the experienced folks over at Raxka Integrative Wellness, often lauded as one of the leading medical retreats in Asia. Designed as a well-being escape for families, couples, and groups travelling together, RXV repackages holistic wellness as a shared experience that different generations can feel involved in. Unlike most wellness retreats, kids and teens are welcome at RXV, and catered to through specific health and mindfulness journeys, as well as family-bonding opportunities.

A wealth of programmes, tailored to each individual regardless of age, is the heart of what makes RXV special, whether guests are here to rediscover calmness and mindfulness, deepen their connections to others and find harmony, revive and restore, step away from daily stress and strengthen bonds with loved ones, or increase resilience for their mind and body.

Each programme, ranging from three to seven nights, begins with a framework of assessments, treatments, and experiences, with customisation options available for guests to choose from. Personalised programmes provide the ultimate tailored experience, with a set number of credits available to be spent on a lengthy list of consultations and therapies. Guests can also participate in such handicraft workshops as moulding natural clay, painting mandalas and kites, and making wellness sachets, scarf garlands, and pang ram bouquets.

The best room?

For the best, look to the 152.5-square-metre Presidential Suite on the 10th floor. It’s the largest option of the 83 keys and five room types offered at RXV, and comes with panoramic views of the river, the surrounding gardens, and the hotel pool from a private balcony. European-inspired detailing is applied across the bedroom and living and dining room, kept contemporary with a muted natural palette, modest pops of colour, and mullion wall finishes.

We were in a 104-square-metre Suite during our stay, the second-highest room category available at RXV, and it also comes with ample space and a wraparound balcony with views over the river. (It almost feels like there is too much space, considering the light furnishings, but our experience at RXV has been that not much time is spent in the room anyway, as the individual treatment schedule tends to take up most of the day till dinnertime.)

Did they greet you by name at check-in?

Yes. I was greeted by name and welcomed by several members of the RXV team upon arrival, as soon as the car dropped me off at the property. Check-in was done smoothly and swiftly while I chatted with the team about the proposed schedule for the coming days. I was also greeted by name throughout my stay by different staff members and wellness instructors.

Was a welcome drink ready and waiting when you arrived?

Yes. A refreshing concoction of sugarcane and serpent root—to improve blood circulation—was presented as soon as I sat down. It came with a small glass bottle with a pipette top; I was encouraged to add a few drops of the milky lime concentrate into the drink for flavour.

Private butler for every room?

Private butler service is not a thing at RXV, but there are different teams of specialists stationed in each of the Wellness zones around the property who work closely together to remain aligned on their guests’ personalised health goals, wellness programmes, and treatment schedules, so everyone’s looped in and locked in to assist with your needs and enquiries to make sure your integrative well-being journey runs a smooth course.

Is the sheet thread count higher than 300?

It’s exactly 300, and the cotton bedding is custom-made for RXV Wellness Village.

Is there a heated floor in the bathroom? What about a bidet?

No heated floor—it’s too hot and humid for that. Bathrooms come with a handheld bidet.

Are the toiletries full-sized?

Yes. A trio of RXV-branded shampoo, conditioner, and body wash awaits in the shower.

Is there a private pool for the room’s exclusive use? How are the spa and gym?

No private pools in the house, but there is a shared swimming pool as part of the facilities, as well as the comprehensive Bor-Naam hydrotherapy hub in the Wellness Jai zone. Quiet, serene, and restorative, Bor-Naam consolidates a vitality pool, separate soda and oxygen baths, a cold plunge pool, an infrared sauna, a steam room, and an experience shower into a centre of healing. Different hydrotherapy “pathways” are signposted, designed to treat or address various conditions, such as muscle recovery after workouts, improved skincare and skin rejuvenation, better sleep, de-stressing for mind and body, and the like. Guests can pick up wristbands for lockers and are given branded tote bags for use throughout the property, adding to the casual, social wellness atmosphere.

Wellness Jai is also where guests can avail themselves of a comprehensive suite of spa treatments, traditional medicine solutions, and alternative therapies, including naturopathy, Eastern traditional medicines, and energy healing. From a specialised belly and gut massage, rose-crystal lymphatic facial, crystal sound-healing ritual, and ya pok therapeutic massage using fermented herbs to target joint swelling and pain, to a rice-grain body scrub and—our personal favourite—a royal-court-style massage targeting specific acupressure points, the list of available therapies seems endless. Rest assured, the experts at RXV will make the right recommendations to align with your health goals during your initial consultation and adjust the suggested treatments according to your personal preferences on-site.

For programmes with a medical slant, the Wellness Clinic zone offers modern solutions such as intravenous vitamin treatments targeting different goals such as boosting the immune system, achieving skin glow, amino therapy, omega anti-inflammation, as well as cryosauna therapies, colon cleanses, and Indiba therapies for cosmetic contouring.

Wellness Gaya is the fitness hub, where physical therapists and sports scientists assess your physical condition and guide you through active exercises and classes, designed to improve your strength, mobility, flexibility, and coordination. Pilates, yoga, breathwork, tai chi, neuromuscular exercises, body stretches, functional training sessions, myofascial release, and even spine health and body composition analyses can be explored here. Of course, it comes with a fully equipped gym (if you can find time between your treatments for a workout).

Is the restaurant worth its salt?

Yes. When it comes to nutritional care and attention to individual health requirements, RVX Kitchen—the main restaurant—is on the ball. Its unique “rainbow food” concept centres around holistic sustenance and healthful ingredients without compromising on enjoyment or flavour, without restricting guests to a rigorous diet. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner is served at RXV Kitchen, and guests can choose to sit indoors, on the outdoor terrace, or by the Tha Chin river. All items on the menus are meticulously curated, with a handy legend describing the benefits of each dish. Gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian, or designed for gut health, beauty, or muscle recovery—you name it, the kitchen team’s thought about it.

Local and international cuisines are represented—think wild mushroom toast, gravlax on a homemade charcoal bagel, Jerusalem artichoke soup, prawn salad prepared with local seafood, grilled octopus, roasted beetroot carpaccio, pan-seared salmon with carrot purée, madai red snapper risotto, roasted turmeric chicken, green and red curries, yum som-o spicy pomelo salad, rainbow rice-paper rolls, high-fibre salad, and so much more.

Alternatively, if the choice is too overwhelming and you would rather receive personalised guidance, guests can request for the team to take care of their daily meals, tailored around their programme and dietary requirements. (We were served some off-menu items during our stay that were recommended to us by the chef based on our scheduled activities and treatments. We love that the calorie-counting was done for us so all we needed to focus on was tucking into a flow of varied dishes without making us feel like we were following a diet.) Ingredients are sourced locally whenever possible, with an emphasis on freshness and seasonality.

Guests can also head to the smaller RXV Café for a light pick-me-up pre- or post-treatment, with a choice from sandwiches, pastries, snacks, juices, teas, and coffees.

Do you want to spend Friday night in the lobby bar?

No designated lobby bar here, which is just as well—we have come to detox, revitalise, restore, and recalibrate our bodies, after all, and alcohol kind of defeats the purpose, though RXV is not authoritarian about the whole thing. RXV Kitchen offers red and white wines, beers, ciders, as well as signature and classic cocktails for those with a yen for a drink.

Would you buy the hotel if you could?

Purchasing the hotel seems, in this case, to be beside the point of what RXV Wellness Village is aiming to accomplish, though we are absolutely sold on the idea of having an integrative wellness sanctuary in our back pocket. (One of the things we might explore, as potential owners, would be to implement more consistent room design across all categories, and standardise the finishings.) Entrenched in the philosophy of inclusive well-being for everyone, with a specific focus on creating an accessible space that’s comfortable for families of all ages to engage in multigenerational wellness, RVX is all about sharing the experience, and building a strong foundation for better living together. Even if it’s not ours to own, we are big fans of the transformative vision and the care and attention that the staff and specialist teams put into our experience and tailored programme, all the way from the pre-arrival consultation to on-site check-ins and treatments. We certainly look forward to returning.
