The hills are alive with the sound of luxury.
On Monday, Rosewood Hotels & Resorts opened its second property in Austria: Rosewood Schloss Fuschl, located along Lake Fuschl at the base of the Austrian Alps. The 98-key hotel—with 42 suites and six chalets—is situated in a 15th-century castle that’s been transformed into a relaxing oasis, with design cues taken from the natural surroundings.
“Rosewood Schloss Fuschl is more than just a castle—it’s a gateway to Austria’s breathtaking Salzkammergut region,” Sascha Hemmann, the hotel’s managing director, said in a statement. “From the moment guests arrive, they’re enveloped in the timeless charm of Salzburg’s royal retreat.”
The building was constructed all the way back in 1461, when it served as a hunting lodge for the Prince-Archbishops of Salzburg. It was first transformed into a hotel in 1947, and now Rosewood has taken the reins. The company, however, has retained nods to that history: The design firms G.A. Group and Bauer Stahl worked to make the rooms befitting of their locale, with the Austrian flora and fauna serving as inspiration. The colours throughout the space mimic those seen during all four seasons, on display with items such as the hand-painted minibars that can be found in every room.
With six different dining options on property plus a 16,000-square-foot spa, you won’t have to go very far to enjoy yourself. The food offerings range from lamb saddle with black truffle at the main Schloss Restaurant to local fish from Lake Fuschl at the waterside See Club. While it’s not your regular beach club, you can post up in a lakeside cabana and take in those Alpine views. If relaxing at the spa is more your vibe, the Asaya Spa has indoor and outdoor infinity pools, three saunas, and a steam bath. You can even plan a multiday retreat focused on biohacking or dynamic ageing.
If you do feel like venturing into the city, the hotel is more than happy to help arrange activities. The Rosewood team can set up after-hours tours at local museums, private concerts, and hot-air-balloon rides over the Alps. When the weather’s nice, you can opt for a guided hike or boating excursion. And during the wintertime, you have to check out the iconic Austrian Christmas markets, or go on an evening toboggan ride.
Rates start at €650 (about HK$5,500) per night.
