Few partnerships of this exalted stature resonate as profoundly as that between Richard Mille and Ferrari, and the fact we didn’t see it coming on the horizon and it simply and suddenly zoomed into view—that’s just perfect branding and timing!

Ferrari and Richard Mille’s RM 43-01 Tourbillon Split-Seconds Chronograph emerges as a highly coveted collaboration, bringing to the table the essence of both brands in peak formation: innovation, performance, and impeccable design. Limited to just 150 pieces—75 crafted from micro-blasted titanium and 75 from carbon TPT—this watch not only pays homage to the marque’s illustrious legacy but also sets a new benchmark in high-complication timepieces that Richard Mille has been perfecting for so many decades.

In fact, the genesis of the RM 43-01 is a testament to the synergy between Maranello and Les Breuleux. Each watch is a canvas where engineering prowess meets aesthetic brilliance. Ferrari Centro Stile’s involvement has been pivotal, influencing everything from the watch’s silhouette to intricate details such as the crown and the strap, which features a pattern reminiscent of the Purosangue’s luxurious seats—a deliberate design choice that encapsulates the passion and precision that define Ferrari as a leading automotive giant.

A striking titanium plate, laser-engraved with the iconic Cavallino logo, occupies the space left open during the movement’s development. Inspired by the rear wing of the Ferrari 499P, this detail is a nod to the marque’s automotive heritage, seamlessly blending watchmaking with the world of high-performance cars. Moreover, the RM43-01 calibre is a marvel of engineering, developed over three years to ensure optimal performance and durability. Its lightweight, skeletonised titanium baseplate is complemented by bridges crafted from both titanium and carbon TPT, resulting in a structure that is robust and aesthetically pleasing. A remarkable 70-hour power reserve is indicated at two o’clock on a 5N PVD titanium dial, while a torque indicator on a secondary dial showcases the watch’s energy efficiency.

At the heart of the timepiece lies an off-centre tourbillon escapement, which injects kinetic energy into the design. Enhanced by an innovative active seconds display featuring five radial blades, the watch elegantly merges complexity with functionality.

Richard Mille’s commitment to excellence is evident in every facet of the RM 43-01. As Salvador Arbona, the maison’s movement technical director, says, “Our work as movement manufacturers is becoming increasingly scientific,” and this philosophy drives the development of components that are not only durable but also enhance performance. Extensive testing and meticulous research underpin the integrity of each part, ensuring that every design decision amplifies the watch’s technical capabilities.

The RM 43-01 Tourbillon Split-Seconds Chronograph Ferrari encapsulates the thrilling intersection of automotive and watchmaking artistry, marking a significant chapter in the rich narrative of both Richard Mille and Ferrari.
