As dusk settles over Victoria Harbour and a starry velvet night envelops the city, the stage is set for an evening of cultural opulence at The Peninsula Hong Kong.

On 20 September 2025, Felix at The Peninsula Hong Kong will host a vibrant homage to Georges Bizet’s beloved opera Carmen, reimagined as Les Amours de Carmen Wong, in what promises to be a memorable production. An adaptation that not only commemorates a significant milestone in the opera’s history—its 150th anniversary—the performance will also weave the rich tapestry of Hong Kong’s artistic heritage into its narrative.

Les Amours de Carmen Wong transports audiences to the 1960s and 1970s, immersing them in a world where the timeless tale of Carmen—a story of passion, betrayal, and tragedy—intertwines with the vibrant narrative of a bustling Hong Kong bar. It’s an innovative interpretation that breathes new life into the classic, presenting it through the lens of the city’s dynamic cultural landscape, resonating with both local and international audiences.
Les Amours de Carmen Wong features an illustrious ensemble of Asian and international talent, comprising exceptional vocalists poised to captivate audiences. Tenor Chen Yong, mezzo-soprano Ashley Chui, soprano Etta Fung, and baritone Albert Lim will each bring their distinctive artistry to the stage, embodying the complex emotions of Bizet’s characters.
Felix’s acclaimed chef de cuisine, Aurélie Altemaire, will complement their performances with a meticulously curated four-course menu. Each dish is designed to enhance the operatic experience with exquisite flavours that reflect the cultural fusion at the heart of the production. Guests will indulge in Kaviari Baeri caviar with avocado and Japanese toro tuna paired with agua chile, followed by a choice of a la plancha blue lobster or grilled A4 Kagoshima tenderloin—each dish a testament to the artistry and innovation defining modern Hong Kong cuisine. A delicate rose panna cotta will cap off the evening—a sweet finale that echoes the romance of Les Amours de Carmen Wong’s narrative.
Making its debut in May as part of the French May Arts Festival, a cornerstone of the city’s cultural calendar since 1993, Les Amours de Carmen Wong serves as a testament to the power of storytelling through music and performance. For those seeking a truly unique cultural experience, the performance at The Peninsula Hong Kong promises to be unforgettable.
Whether you are an aficionado of classical music or simply in search of a captivating evening, this event merges the timeless allure of Bizet’s masterpiece with the contemporary flair of Hong Kong’s artistic community, creating a highlight of the cultural calendar.
