Our colleagues at Robb Report went for a test drive just two months ago in California and were raving about it. Top Gear says, “It has a claim to being the best supercar in the world,” while Car and Driver states, “Its off-road capabilities aside, Lamborghini has created quite possibly the best roadgoing Huracán to date.” In fact, there are even Instagram fan accounts with thousands of followers dedicated purely to the recently launched car (no affiliation to the marquee, but the fandom is strong).

All of them are, of course, talking about the new Huracán Sterrato. We at Robb Report Hong Kong had heard so much about the latest model from Lamborghini that the anticipation was off the charts. Et voilà, making its official debut in Hong Kong late last week, the first supercar designed for all-terrain driving “reinterprets the very concept of sportiness and embodies the brand principles of ‘brave, authentic and unexpected,’” the brand announced in an official statement.

At a grand unveiling, car collectors, motor enthusiasts, editors, and fans of note attended to see this powerful road warrior under the arch lights on stage.

“I’m excited to introduce the new Huracán Sterrato to this dynamic market, where the customers are fond of the exclusivity and uniqueness of limited edition,” said  Konstantin Sychev, managing director of Automobili Lamborghini Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong & Macao. “With a limited production of just 1,499 units, Sterrato is designed to drive on loose surfaces, gravel, and dust, which reinterprets the concept of what a super sports car can be. It belongs to the world’s most dynamic and thrilling driving environments.”

Visually, there are immediate distinctions compared with Huracán EVO—there’s a new front bumper design featuring LED driving lights and a top roof rack. To handle rough roads serrated with gravel and rock, the ground clearance and front and rear track widths have been increased. For a strong profile, look for the reinforced sills, sturdy wheel arches, rear diffuser, and front underbody protection. Internally, there are technical advances to supply the engine with clean air when driving on muddy roads; the air intake is located on the rear hood, enhancing the drive.

“Sterrato is testimony to how the Lamborghini design DNA works perfectly, even with unexpected proportions,” says Mitja Borkert, head of design at Automobili Lamborghini. “Sterrato’s design translates its super sports car heritage into a new lifeform, reflecting its specific intent to deliver a dynamic driving experience.”

In an earlier feature, Basem Wasef, automotive journalist and photographer, had described the driver’s seat as “not a spaceship, just the otherworldly cockpit of a Lamborghini Huracán” when describing the interiors. Indeed, the driver’s view of what to expect when taking the wheel is surreal and exactly what the makers were going for as the interiors reflect the “feel like a pilot” philosophy. Notably, the mantra adopted for the entire Huracán line is that the driver is the master of his domain with absolute control of all of the car’s features. For the tech and gadget geeks, the Human Machine Interface (HMI) “offers new graphics and special driving features and the Huracán Sterrato offers optimised driving dynamics for perfect control in all environments, from highways to dirt roads.” All that, but decked out with chic Alcantara Verde Sterrato upholstery.

“With the high-speed, all-terrain concept of Sterrato, we have combined the driving experience of a true super sports car with the fun of driving a rally car,” says Rouven Mohr, chief technical officer of Automobili Lamborghini. “Lamborghini cars always deliver emotion: Sterrato delivers a new degree of driving thrills.”

Let’s take a look under the hood—the Huracán Sterrato runs on a 5.2-litre V10 engine, which has a maximum power output of 610 CV and 560 Nm of torque (at 6,500 rpm). A seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and electronically controlled all-wheel drive with rear mechanical self-locking differential round it out.

From a speed perspective, Sterrato accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds, with a top speed of 260 km/h. Its brakes are equipped with aluminium fixed monoblock callipers with six pistons (front) and four pistons (rear) as well as ventilated and cross-drilled carbon-ceramic discs. Sterrato also comes with 19-inch rims and custom-engineered Bridgestone Dueler AT002 tires, the first all-terrain tire developed for supercars specifically designed for and exclusive to the model.

Of the limited edition (only 1,499 models are in the works), 525 are earmarked for collectors in the US, while the rest of the world has just 924 customised vehicles up for grabs with the marquee’s signature Lamborghini Ad Personam programme. Now, one can be yours starting from HK$4,988,000 (tax inclusive).
