Genesis

Genesis just kicked off the 2025 New York International Auto Show in spectacular style.

One year after pulling back the curtain on the dazzling Neolun at the same convention, the company has returned with an even more striking concept, the X Gran Equator. The marque’s first adventure vehicle prototype offers a glimpse of a future where you can overland in the utmost style and comfort.

Over its decade in business, Genesis has shown it can build a beautiful car, conceptual or otherwise. Still, with this latest design—which the brand says is meant to channel “Athletic Elegance”—it has taken things to a new level. The long-nosed SUV looks as futuristic as it does sophisticated, with its grille-less front fascia, smooth, sweeping lines, and split-opening tailgate. Rounding things out are a gigantic set of 24-inch beadlock wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires and a two-line lighting package that has become a trademark of the company’s concepts.

Genesis says the X Gran Equator is meant to signal its continued expansion into “lifestyle-oriented” vehicles. This can best be seen in the concept’s cabin. The visually arresting space mixes old and new, with the gigantic central touchscreen found in the brand’s production models replaced by smaller, vintage-style digital gauges and physical buttons. The interior is done up in a fetching two-tone colourway that pairs a rich navy blue with tan. There are several opulent details to remind you that you’re in a Genesis as well, like a four-panel sunroof and crystal ball shifter.

Unfortunately, we don’t know what kind of powertrain is in the concept. The announcement is short on mechanical details, but the lack of a grille, along with the nature of most of the brand’s recent prototypes, suggests the X Gran Equator is probably all-electric. We do know that it does feature all-wheel drive, which isn’t a surprise since it is an adventure vehicle after all.

So now to the big question: will you ever be able to drive the X Gran Equator? Genesis says the vehicle has not been “confirmed for production” but does say that it is meant to “showcase the brand’s future design potential.”

Regardless, you’ll be able to see the X Gran Equator in person in New York over the next few months. The concept will be parked at the marque’s booth at the New York Auto Show, which opens this Friday, after which it will be on display at the Genesis House in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District through the end of July.
