Michelin Guide Hong Kong and Macau 2022 honoured 71 restaurants in Hong Kong and 15 in Macau with their coveted stars. Here’s a look at new entrants, what went up a tier and who managed status quo.

Every year is a new opportunity for top tables across Hong Kong and Macau to stake a claim to a spot on the esteemed Michelin Guide. In spite of the ongoing pandemic posing major challenges in the dining scene in the past year, local chefs and restaurateurs have risen to the occasion, finding innovative ways to adapt and continue their relentless pursuit of culinary creativity and excellence. In recognition of their contribution to top-tier gastronomy, the Michelin Guide Hong Kong and Macau 2022 has bestowed its stars on 71 establishments in Hong Kong and 15 in Macau, with 11 new entrants and promotions in the mix.

Winners of the Michelin Guide Hong Kong and Macau 2022 were announced through a live virtual award ceremony on 19 January 2022. This year, Hong Kong continues to prove itself as one of Asia’s finest culinary destinations, boasting seven three-star restaurants, 12 two-star restaurants, and 52 one-star restaurants.

Meanwhile, Macau also has no shortage of remarkable eateries either, showing off three three-star restaurants, five two-star restaurants, and seven one-star restaurants.

Five newcomers make their debut on the one-star list: Hansik Goo serving bold, modern Korean cuisine; I M Teppanyaki & Wine delivering exquisite and theatrical teppanyaki dining; Whey dishing out re-imagined European fare with Singaporean influences; contemporary sushi restaurant Sushi Wadatsumi; and neo-Parisian bistro Belon at its newly relocated venue. Additionally, four restaurants previously recommended by the guide—Chaat, Mono, Seventh Son, and Yong Fu—are promoted to one star in the 2022 edition.

Of the two-star recipients, Italian fine-dining establishment Octavium makes a new entry into the guide under the expert stewardship of Austrian chef Roland Schuller and German chef Bjoern Alexander, while Cantonese restaurant Yan Toh Heen moves up the ranks with a step up to two stars. Two-star fine-dining stalwart Amber deserves a special round of applause for taking home an additional Michelin Green Star, which spotlights restaurants that have made significant strides in sustainable gastronomy.

No third star has been taken nor added to the 2022 selection, with all 10 three-starred stalwarts in Hong Kong and Macau continuing to spearhead their respective region’s culinary scene. Below is comprehensive list of Michelin-starred restaurants in Hong Kong and Macau for 2022.
