Held in honour of Hong Kong Gold Coast’s 30th anniversary, the Gold Coast Motor Festival 2023 saw over 100 spectacular wheels in motion and in rest, the likes of which many in the local community had rarely seen altogether, all at once. Be it vintage cars of note or the modern equivalent to the Batmobile, colourful candy-coloured Porsches to roaring McLarens, the event showcased the most delightful wheels as they emerged from underground garages to cruise on city roads.
If there was any suspicion that the turnout would be subdued due to the secluded location of Hong Kong Gold Coast, the impressive collection of automobiles and yachts from Hong Kong and around the world effortlessly lured the masses in fantastic numbers as the most incredible vehicles rolled into the grounds of the Hong Kong Gold Coast Yacht & Country Club, and yachts sailed by to dock at the pier. Uncountable number of guests, fans, and photographers from local, mainland China and overseas—hobby and professional alike—were in attendance to witness a motor affair like no other.
Hong Kong Gold Coast’s weekend-long motoring celebration was officiated by The Honourable Michael Wong, GBS, JP, deputy financial secretary of HKSAR; The Honourable Kenneth Lau, SBS, MH, JP, member of the Executive Council; The Honourable Kenneth Fok, JP, member of the Legislative Council; and Nikki Ng, non-executive director of Sino Group. “Hong Kong Gold Coast is celebrating its 30th anniversary, which makes it the perfect time to present such an international and enjoyable event,” said Ng. “Gold Coast Motor Festival is not just for motor and boating enthusiasts; it is also a happy event for families, youth, and festival-goers.”
A party with a purpose, a portion of the event’s ticket proceeds was donated to the Community Chest of Hong Kong in support of social services and to promote inclusiveness and social awareness through a charity drive. 30 cars roared their engines; their long drive started at The Fullerton Ocean Park Hotel Hong Kong and culminated at Hong Kong Gold Coast. Underprivileged families, invited by various NGOs, also participated in a meaningful ride by taking an open-top bus and spending the entertaining weekend at the motor festival.
Keeping with the theme, car-inspired lifestyle and entertainment zones for children, students, and families were created at Hong Kong Gold Coast, including at the Gold Coast Yacht & Country Club, Hong Kong Gold Coast Hotel, and Gold Coast Piazza, featuring car-themed inflatable games, kids’ bumper cars, and a driving simulator, topped with live entertainment and performances.
On land, from the dozens of superb cars that rolled in—all representing categories like classic, iconic, and race cars, among others—the highlights included a legendary McLaren F1, Mercedes CLK GTR, and Porsche 911 FT1 from the 1990s (displayed together in Hong Kong for the first time). Pagani Automobili and Gunther Werks also presented Asia-Pacific public debuts of their cars to a rapt audience.
In water, a range of luxury yachts were up for viewing courtesy of event partners including Absolute Yachts, Azimut Yachts, Blackbird Works Supply, Nextwave Yachting, Princess Yachts, Sanlorenzo Yachts, Saxdor Yachts, Simpson Marine, SPS, Williams Jet Tenders, among others. Robb Report Hong Kong was a media partner for the event.
Honouring the rich history, craftsmanship, power, and technological advancements of automobiles, this festive gathering for fans big and small is that rare mix of entertainment, information, and community-building.
